‘kingdom of Ruhuna’ Home of the Yala National Park Sri Lanka
Suriya Jayalath Perera, an award-winning Nature Photographer, was formerly a project Officer in the Department of Wildlife Conservation in Sri Lanka. Mr. Perera the president of the America Sri Lanka Photographic Art Society Los Angeles has recently published a coffee table book titled ‘Kingdom of Ruhuna: Home of the Yala National Park.” with a historical narration of the people and places of the region that will be launched at Sri Lanka in Focus Photographic Exhibition to be held at the Art Gallery of the University of California (UCLA) on April 22-23. 2023. It is the result of his painstaking research work over two years of residence in the Yala area originally carried out for his master’s thesis at the University of Kelaniya Sri Lanka. Mr. Perera is a former Project Officer in the Department of Wildlife Conservation in Sri Lanka. and is credited with holding the first-ever Sri Lankan photographic exhibition in the United States. He has been commended by the Nature Conservancy of America for his contribution to protecting the environment. He has demonstrated a sensitivity to the animal and human life surrounding the pristine environs he has captured through his expert lens.
The Keynote speaker will be Prof. Glen MacDonald, a distinguished professor at UCLA and the chief guest will be Dr. Lalith Chandradasa Consul General of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka in Los Angeles at the event.
